Need cytokine & endothelin help

Our laboratory requires an assay or antibodies for pig or rabbit cytokines
and endothelin on
bronchiole alveolar lavage samples (BAL). In regards to the endothelin
assay, we would be
measuring the endothelial expression of endothelin by staining with labelled
MAb and light
microscopy.

If you happen to have such a technique, a good reference for it, or the name
and address of a
company that can perform it, we would be grateful to hear of it. Thank you.

Any NSABP members?

I am interested in finding out how many of the participants in this news
group are from NSABP institutions. The information will be useful in
constructing telepathology for NSABP. Please respond by e-mail.

Request for Information

I am a US homicide investigator. We currently are working a case in which
we believe the suspect, an emergency medical technician, injected the
victim with a paralytic drug. The drugs of this nature available to the
suspect were succinylcholine HCl (US trade name Anectine), pancuromium
bromide (US trade name Pavulon) and vecuronium bromide (US trade name
Norcuron). The initial postmortem examination was inconclusive and the
pathologist tentatively classified the death as natural. Postmortem
testing for succinylcholine HCl was inconclusive. The pathologist has
informed us that his facility cannot test for the presence of vecuronium
bromide nor for pancuromium bromide; a commercial medical laboratory has
informed us that it does not know of any reliable tests for either
vecuronium or pancuronium. We are particularly concerned about this case
as we have tentative evidence suggesting the medical worker may have
injected other patients with paralytic drugs, although without fatal
results, and that the worker may still be employed in the emergency
medical field. We also are interested in any psychiatric/psychologic
information about medical workers who deliberately create
life-threatening situations in patients in order to fulfill their own
emotional needs for excitement and attention. Any assistance is greatly
appreciated.

Gas Abuse

Hello:

I am posting this for a coworker (I’ll call her Amy) with a personal
problem. I choose to remain anonymous because some of my coworkers monitor
the sci.med.* as well

The problem is that her 11 year old son is hanging out with somewhat older
kids, and getting high by inhaling Helium and sometimes Nitrogen. Amy’s
problem is that she wants medical proof to show her ex-husband since he
does not believe her. With this proof then maybe both of them will solve
their problem.

What Amy wants to know: Is there a blood test, or any other test, to detect
Helium or Nitrogen in the body?

Please post your answers in this newsgroup.

Thank you and God Bless all.

Death reasons

I am interested of death reasons, specially of the question
"How many people die by diseases which are caused by smoking?"

I know of some sources which could help me. Now I want to
know if some of them are available on the internet:

Garfinkel, L.
Overweight and mortality
Cancer 1986, 58: 1826-1829

Smoking and health
A report of the Surgeon General US Department of Health
Public Health Service 1979

Does somebody know of a study made by Hammond who compared
36,975 "statistical twins"? Perhaps somebody named Cyran
was involved in that study, too.

Thank you in advance, Proppi

Need info on cytokine and endothelin assay

Needed:

Information on the best method of assaying cytokines and endothelin. In
particular to cytokines, we would like to know about bronchiole alveolar
fluid (washing) assays for rabbits or pigs. If you would
have an experimental protocol, expected accuracy limits or the name of a
laboratory or company that performs such tests or a reference article it
be much appreciated.

In regards to endothelin, we would like to assay the expression of it in
endothelial cells (ie in the lung, but not necessarily in the lung) by
light microscopy and staining with monoclonal antibodies.
If you have a protocol, reference article or any tips that also would be
gratefully received.

HYDROCELE-questions

re testicular hydrocele-is aspiration of fluid ever effective?  Could
a decent job of removal be done in-office (size-a little larger than a
baseball) or would an OR be necessary?

Thanks for any info- D Tilley
