For the past couple months I’ve experienced a problem with mouth
dryness which has become constant.  This seems to be associated
with a white or greyish white, thick coating which coats my tongue.
The sensation is one of extreme astringency and is most noticeable
after I eat or drink, particularly if I don’t immediately floss and
brush.  Just brushing my teeth isn’t enough: I also have to brush
my tongue; this removes most of the coating but it comes back quickly.
Even if I don’t eat or drink it will return in half a day with equal
severity.  It seems to have gotten worse, i.e., it is present all the
time and more severe.  I often find myself taking breaths through an
open mouth because this fleetingly reduces the sensation.  Associated
with this sensation of oral astringency is a kind of tactile sensation
which is rather unpleasant but difficult to describe: it’s vaguely
analogous to a "nails on chalkboard" feeling.  Just drying my hands
on a paper towel is an unpleasant experience, but to some degree
